Create Short Clips with Descript

Step-by-step

1. Open your full-length recording in Descript.
2. Review the transcript and identify 3-5 compelling moments: key insights, quotable statements, surprising data points, or emotional moments.
3. Select the text for each clip in the transcript — aim for 30-90 second clips for social media.
4. Create a new composition from the selection: this creates a standalone clip project.
5. Add a title card at the beginning: include the topic or a hook that makes viewers want to watch.
6. Add captions: for social media, burned-in captions are essential since most viewing is on mute.
7. Resize for the platform: square (1080x1080) for LinkedIn/Instagram feed, vertical (1080x1920) for Stories/Reels/TikTok.
8. Add your logo or branding as a watermark.
9. Export each clip in the appropriate format and resolution for its target platform.
10. Schedule clips across your social channels using Buffer or Typefully, spaced out over the week for maximum reach.
